The second largest of the Canary Islands has been declared a Biosphere Reserve since 2009, thanks to the diversity of its ecosystems and the precious species they contain. It is an island made for sport and relaxation, with natural landscapes, miles of beaches with crystal-clear waters and the pioneering services of Barceló Hotels & Resorts in Fuerteventura.
An original way of getting to know Fuerteventura is to cross the island on the paths that run through the Betancuria Rural Park or along Mount Tindaya, two routes with colourful roads and pure air. If you want to delve into the more traditional past, you can visit the Alcogida Eco-Museum, which recreates rural life and typical island houses.
The wild and impressive beaches of the Jandía Natural Park, Costa Calma and Morro Jable are interspersed with towns such as Bentacuria, Puerto del Rosacio and La Oliva, whose churches, chapels and even a castle have been declared World Heritage Sites. The extensive dunes of the Corralejo Nature Reserve, a stone's throw from the Barceló Hotels & Resorts in Fuerteventura, are another of the most popular natural attractions.
The waves and blue waters that bathe the coasts of Fuerteventura make diving, kite surfing and windsurfing the star sports. In fact, every year windsurfers from all over the world gather at beaches such as Sotavento to take part in the Surfing World Cup. Another ideal place for water sports is Playa del Castillo, in La Caleta de Fuste, a coastline where you can enjoy the calm of the sea without any wind.
Every corner of this island is ideal for both relaxation and excitement, so do not miss the hotels in Fuerteventura by Barceló Hotel Group for a unique experience.
