As the sun sets the Malecón promenade comes to life. This is when the Mariachis step out to sing their ranchera music, artisans set up their market stalls, and travellers take a stroll to discover the charms offered by this city that, while having a modern feel, still retains some of the features of the original town. The wide choice of all inclusive hotels and resorts in Puerto Vallarta (Jalisco) are the perfect way to discover the essence of charming beaches such as Mismayola or Las Caletas without having to forego the comforts of a luxury holiday.
Richard Burton, Deborah Kerr and Ava Gardner brought fame to this coastal city in the state of Jalisco when The Night of the Iguana was filmed here. The making of this film, directed by John Huston, brought international renown to the all inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta, which in the seventies became established as one of the top tourist destinations in the state.
This picturesque paradise of deep-rooted traditions (release of turtles, the colourful celebrations in honour of the Virgin of Guadalupe, the Day of the Dead, or the celebration of the battle of Puebla) is the halfway point between two totally different natural landscapes. Only a few hundred metres separate the peaceful, never-ending beaches where you can take part in all kinds of water sports (scuba diving, kayaking, paddle surfing, etc.) and the lush tropical rain forest that extends inland following the Nogalito upstream and from where you can set off on the most exotic walks the region has to offer.
The Malecón promenade is the hub of the city and pumps energy, music and colour into every corner of Puerto Vallarta. Almost two kilometres in length, it reveals its full splendour as the sun is setting. This is the place where one of Mexico’s oldest pre-Hispanic rituals takes place every day: the acrobatic dances of the Flyers of Papantla, also known as the Bird-Men.
A row of sculptures accompanies visitors as they make their way to the iconic Plaza de Armas, which is filled with music every weekend, and to the church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the ubiquitous monument with a Renaissance style tower that dominates the skyline from all angles. With so much for you to discover, visitors require the comfort of accommodation that provides all the little touches that make for an outstanding stay.
