Cabo de Gata is one of those destinations to which you return. Kilometric beaches, charming towns, local gastronomy and some of the best landscapes in Spain and Europe. It is the only enclave with a desert climate on the continent, a unique place that has inspired filmmakers and writers, not to mention each of the travelers who visit it.
The extension of the Almería coast that includes Cabo de Gata is protected as a Natural Park. There are only a few towns on its shores, as construction is restricted. For this reason, direct views of the sea are a privilege that the Barceló Hotels & Resorts in Almería feature every day.
If visitors want to discover the charms of Cabo de Gata, the list of possibilities is enormous: Mónsul, Los Genoveses, El Playazo or San Miguel are some of the most famous beaches, and the scene of several mythical images from the cinema. Its landscape shows the reason: wide coast, with crystalline waters, surrounded by volcanic formations and white sand that invites you to rest away from the rest of the world.
The populations inside the park are few, but they have a very particular charm. From the Barceló Hotels & Resorts in Almería, all these enclaves are within reach of the guests, who will not forget the scenes from the western movies that correspond to the most mythical movies.
San Miguel, for example, preserves an old church next to the beach, as well as old fishing boats that adorn the coast as museum pieces. Los Albaricoques was the setting for several of Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns ; while San José offers unique experiences in local gastronomy and nightlife. There is also the possibility of visiting the Sierra de Cabo de Gata, home to Pico El Fraile (the highest volcanic formation in Spain); or the Salinas and their lunar-like landscapes.
