Spanish is the official language of the Dominican Republic. However, due to its reputation as a tourist destination, English is widely spoken in hotels, restaurants, and stores in Punta Cana, facilitating communication with international visitors.
The official currency is the Dominican peso (DOP). In the tourist areas of Punta Cana, U.S. dollars (USD) are commonly accepted in hotels, restaurants, and stores. However, for local purchases and services outside the resorts, we recommend you have Dominican pesos available to obtain better exchange rates and facilitate transactions. Euros (EUR) can also be exchanged at banks, foreign exchange offices, and the airport. ATMs are available in the main tourist areas, and credit cards are widely accepted.
Punta Cana enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures throughout the year, generally between 25 °C (77 ºF) and 30 °C (86 ºF). The dry season, from December to April, is the most recommended time to visit due to the lower probability of rainfall. The rainy season lasts from May to November, although rainfall is usually brief and does not significantly affect tourist activities.
To enter Punta Cana, most tourists only need a valid passport. Citizens of the United States, Canada, the European Union, and other countries are exempt from visa requirements for stays of up to 30 days. In addition, all travelers must complete a digital entry and exit form, known as an e-Ticket, prior to arrival. Please verify the specific requirements for your nationality before traveling.
In Punta Cana, the most common form of transportation for tourists is private or shared shuttles and other transports organized by hotels or travel agencies. Taxis are also available, although it is advisable to agree on the price before starting the trip. If you wish to explore outside the resorts, car rental services, and some tour buses connect the main attractions in the region.
A one-week stay is ideal for enjoying our beaches, participating in water activities, taking part in excursions to nearby places, and relaxing at the resorts. This amount of time allows you to balance leisure activities with exploring the attractions that Punta Cana has to offer.
Punta Cana is generally safe for tourists. However, it is advisable to take the usual precautions, such as not displaying valuables, using authorized transportation, and staying informed about local security recommendations. Staying in well-known and well-located hotels contributes to a safer and more pleasant experience.
No specific vaccinations are required to enter the Dominican Republic. However, it is advisable to be up to date with routine vaccinations, such as tetanus, hepatitis A and B. If you plan to visit rural areas or participate in outdoor activities, it is advisable to consult with a health professional prior to travel.
