Environmental Sanitation Law
On 31st December 2018, the Municipality of Cozumel in the state of Quintana Roo, established an Environmental Sanitation Tax, with the objective of reducing the impact of visitors staying in hotels. Guests are therefore required to pay this environmental tax amounting to $79.20 Mexican pesos per room/night (70% of the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA)). This amount may change without prior notice in accordance with the UMA.
We hereby inform you that from 2nd January 2019, the Barceló Hotel Group will begin to charge this tax directly to its guests in order to report this directly to the Municipality as required.
