Minorca is a magic island. You’ll be able to disconnect from your routine as soon as you set your eyes on its turquoise waters, white sand and beautiful scenery. A weekend is just enough time to get a good picture of everything the island has to offer: idyllic coves, picturesque and majestic cities, local cuisine, walks, hiking and much more.
Get your bathing suit and towel at the ready, but don’t forget comfortable footwear, as Minorca is an island that deserves to be explored by foot. You’ll need it to follow the Camí des Cavalls or to get to the most secluded coves. And don’t forget to visit Cova d’en Xoroi, a club built into a cliff, or to stroll through Mahón and Ciutadella to learn about the history and culture of the island. Are you ready for an unforgettable weekend?
Itinerary day 1
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Mahón: Santa María Church and Town Hall
Mahón’s historic quarter is home to Carthaginian, Roman, Moorish and British remains. Visit the church of Santa María and Mahón’s Town Hall with its typically British clock, brought here from London. They say it was the first clock in Minorca not to tell the time by the Sun.
7:30 PM – 8:30 PM
La Mola Fortress and Mahón Port
At the mouth of the port stands the fortress of La Mola, otherwise known as the Fortress of Isabella II. This imposing complex is well worth a look, as it is one of the finest examples of nineteenth-century military architecture, and played a vital role in the defence of the island against the British. Then, take a look around one of the largest natural harbours in the world.
9:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Passió Mediterrània Restaurant
A restaurant specialising in contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, which serves outstanding, fresh, enjoyable dishes masterfully prepared using locally sourced ingredients. You’ll enjoy an unforgettable dinner!
Itinerary day 2
10:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Cala Mitjana and Cala Mitjaneta
We know this is meant to be a weekend of relaxation, but if you can manage to get up early enough, you can find yourself a really good spot at Cala Mitjaneta (a little cove located just before its big sister, Cala Mitjana) and its crystal-clear waters where you can spend a quiet, delightful morning.
3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Nao Beach Club
At this modern beach club located just one kilometre’s walk along the Camí de Cavalls, you can enjoy all kinds of cooking, ranging from local to international cuisine. Do not miss its speciality: the traditional Minorcan lobster stew.
5:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Cala Galdana
Stretching for over 300 metres, this is one of Minorca’s largest coves. Its star feature is the range of nautical sports available here: kayaking, pedaloes, paddle surfing, etc. It offers every service and facility, and its waters are surprisingly blue and clear.
8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Cova d’en Xoroi
This leisure and music venue stands on a clifftop, and makes the most of the comings and goings of a natural cave. Although it is open during the daytime, in the evening it offers beautiful sunset views. If the sky is clear and free of clouds, you will experience one of the most amazing sunsets of your life.
10:30 PM – 12:00 AM
Restaurante Torralbenc
This splendid restaurant—overseen by Gorka Txapartegi, a Michelin-starred chef—serves an accomplished blend of Basque and traditional Minorcan cuisine to offer its customers a most pleasurable gastronomic experience.
Itinerary day 3
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Cala Turqueta
Hidden among pine trees, its deep-turquoise-blue waters and the image of the boats sailing on the surface of the ‘almost invisible’ water, are always a source of astonishment to visitors who catch sight of it from above as they walk from the car park. This is one of the island’s finest coves, and has been used as the setting for several television advertisements.
1:30 PM – 6:00 PM
Minorca by boat
How do you fancy sailing on Minorca’s crystal-clear waters, visiting undiscovered, hidden coves, exploring the seabed, snorkelling, and enjoying a delicious paella on board a boat? Boat trips depart from several locations on the island to sail around both the north and south coasts, depending on your point of departure.
8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
A stroll around Ciutadella
Have a stroll around Ciutadella’s historic centre, and be seduced by the stately charm of this small town. Visit the thirteenth-century Cathedral of Santa María de Ciudadela, the lively Plaça des Born or Plaça de s’Esplanada. Equally essential is a visit to Ciutadella’s iconic harbour, where you can buy a culinary souvenir or have dinner.
10:00 PM – 11:30 PM
S’Amarador Restaurant
Located on Ciutadella’s harbour, this restaurant specialising in seafood rice dishes, as well as shellfish and lobster stews, has become a benchmark thanks to the quality of its cooking and its strategic location. From its terrace offering views of the port you can also watch the sun set.
