Travelling with kids is a different way to travel. Naturally, it entails certain restrictions, but it also helps us to conjure up our lost innocence and bring back somewhat that sense of amazement offered by new landscapes, especially when you see their faces filled with fascination at the weird and wonderful. Fortunately, Lanzarote is a perfect destination for going on holiday with children, as the island offers a diverse range of options so that they don’t get bored. You can, for instance, go on a short trip on one of the submarines that set sail from Puerto Calero, ride on a dromedary through Timanfaya National Park or explore, together with them, the different volcanic tubes that the island is home to.

In fact, we believe that the success of a holiday with kids doesn’t lie in just planning experiences exclusively for them, but in also adapting certain activities—either cultural, related to the landscape or other types—so that they enjoy them. This way, children start to soak everything up, in their own way, all the merits associated with changing their surroundings for a few days, and most likely they will want to return in years to come, this time with friends, to the place they saw for the first time with you. In any case, as balance is always a virtue, why not treat them with a day of adventure at one of Lanzarote’s water parks. Read on to find the best.

Aquapark Costa Teguise

Situated in the town of Costa Teguise, little over ten minutes away from the capital of Lanzarote by car, this complex boasts facilities for the whole family, as, together with different sized slides, rivers navigable with floats and ball pools, there are relaxation areas for adults, such as a pool with a sun deck and a hydromassage bathtub.

What’s more, it also boasts the only indoor paintball court on the island, offering different group competitions, from team duels to the most original forms of play, such as flag capture and “all against all”. The water park supplies players with all necessary equipment—suits, weapons and paint balls, etc. The activity is aimed at teenagers and children under the age of 16 need authorisation signed by their parents or legal guardian in order to participate.

The park also has a cinema that shows films for the whole family in Full HD and also offers fun effects, such as leg tickling, blowing on the neck and seats that shake, among others.

In terms of services, the park offers Wi-Fi, a cloakroom, free parking and toilets and changing rooms. There is also a space provided for leaving pushchairs, and the facilities are accessible for people with reduced mobility, with special toilets and pool lifts.

Finally, food-wise, there is a restaurant with kids’ and adult menus, as well as a cafeteria and a supermarket selling ice-cream and various soft drinks.

Aqualava Water Park

Lanzarote’s other great water park complex is found on Playa Blanca, in the south of the island. Its theme pays tribute to the feature that is most representative of the island’s geography: its impressive volcanoes. What’s more, Aqualava Water Park defines itself as an environmentally friendly centre, which is why it employs a geothermal system (renewable energy that harvests the heat accumulated in the earth) to heat its pools.

Some of its main attractions are:

  • Corsario Bay. A pool designed especially for the youngest, as it is shallow and furnished with a giant octopus.
  • Aqualava Beach. A saltwater pool with waves that recreates the setting of a beach.
  • Timan Fire. A set of slides with spectacular loops.
  • Magma River. A river navigated on board individual or double floats.

Much like Aquapark Costa Teguise, the park boasts Wi-Fi, free parking in the surrounding area, showers, changing rooms, access for people with reduced mobility and lockers. It also provides parasols and hammocks for relaxing next to the pools and has qualified lifeguards.

Furthermore, its restaurant, Tiki Kitchen, offers a varied buffet and has a live cooking station. It also has a shop, the Tiki Shop, where you can buy fruit juice, water and ice cream.

As you can see, both the Aqualava Water Park and the Aquapark Costa Teguise are designed so that the family’s youngest ones have the time of their life. Still thinking about it? Then why not treat them to an unforgettable day!
