Located in the “new Dubai”, between Jebel Ali Harbour and the American University, the Dubai Marina district is another luxurious icon in the capital of the emirate of Dubai. It’s one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods for tourists and boasts the world’s largest marina. The Dubai Marina project is modelled on the famous Concord Pacific Place in Vancouver, Canada, and features unique buildings such as Dubai Marina Towers, Majara Towers, Al Sahab Towers, and has 64 connected luxury villas.
Dubai Marina came out of nowhere at the dawn of the 21st century with the aim of becoming the largest man-made tourist harbour on the planet. Today it’s lined with many skyscrapers, a four-storey shopping centre, and a pedestrian walkway known as the Promenade that runs along the water and is popular with walkers, joggers, and roller-skaters. It’s a seven-kilometre long promenade flanked by over 200 high-end restaurants offering different cuisines from around the world. The other major artery of Dubai Marina is The Walk promenade.

What is Dubai Marina?
Covering an area of 1.56 square kilometres, Dubai Marina is a very new and modern district with sophisticated luxury. Futuristic skyscrapers, a long man-made canal, ultra-modern shopping centres, fine dining restaurants, impossibly long yachts, and a beautiful beach that invites you to relax and unwind. Dubai Marina has it all. That’s why it’s an area that everyone wants to visit.
What can you do at Dubai Marina?
As well as enjoying a stroll through this unique and luxurious area, there are many things you can do at Dubai Marina, from shopping to taking a ride on the Dubai Tram, visiting the Al-Raheem Mosque, or discovering the nightlife in any of the nearby trendy bars. Here are the must-see places to visit at Dubai Marina:
Dubai Marina Walk
The Dubai Marina Walk is the centre of Dubai Marina and is therefore popular with locals and tourists alike, both during the day and at night. During the day, this area invites you to stroll around and enjoy the fountains, palm trees, and green spaces, and to stop off at one of the many restaurants, cafés, or shopping centres. The excitement continues when the sunlight disappears and the artificial lights are switched on and reflect in the canal. Many people come here to enjoy the bars, restaurants, cinemas, and nightclubs.
Dubai Marina Mall
This is the most iconic shopping centre at Dubai Marina. It’s home to almost 200 shops of all kinds spread over four floors and, due to the sheer amount of them, there are ones to suit all tastes and budgets, as well as plenty of major international brands.
Al Raheem Mosque
Nestled between skyscrapers, the Al Raheem Mosque is located on the Dubai Marina promenade at the southern end of Dubai Marina Walk and is the only Islamic place of worship in the district. It has a huge dome and a façade facing the waters of the promenade. Please note that it’s only open for worship.
Palm Jumeirah
This is a huge artificial island that looks like a palm tree and is home to the iconic Atlantis The Palm hotel, which looks like a large ship when viewed from a distance. The residential area of the Palm Jumeirah “palm tree” is divided into three parts: a 2-kilometre-long trunk, a crown with 17 connected fronds, and an 11-kilometre-long crescent sandy island that serves as a breakwater.
Cruising around Dubai Marina
Cruising around Dubai Marina is a highly recommended experience, as you can take the pulse of the new Dubai from a different angle. It’s easy to book a short cruise for a few hours (some include lunch or dinner), cruising around Palm Jumeirah and getting a close-up view of the Atlantis resort. There are excursions that include a swim in a beautiful area nearby.
Where to eat at Dubai Marina
There are many types of restaurants in Dubai, so choose one based on your budget, tastes, and the type of the venue. The city is well prepared to cater to the culinary needs of visitors. Any recommendations? You’re sure to have a wonderful time at Clay Dubai, Belcanto, Café Beirut, Sucre, The Farm House, Beefbar, Tamoka, Papillon, or Woodfire.
Nightlife at Dubai Marina
Dubai Marina has a lively nightlife and plenty to offer visitors who come to this area of Dubai to enjoy themselves. There are a number of ultra-modern bars and clubs that compete with each other to host the most celebrated international DJs and to have the best atmosphere. Most of the bars and clubs at Dubai Marina are located inside the hotel complexes, as these are the only places in the city where alcohol can be served.
Where to stay near Dubai Marina
The best places to stay near Dubai Marina belong to a Spanish brand. For excellent value for money, we recommend Dukes The Palm, a Royal Hideaway Hotel, located on the iconic Palm Jumeirah and opposite Nakheel shopping centre, the Barceló Residences Dubai Marina, with spacious apartments in Dubai Marina, the Occidental Dubai Production City, close to the Expo, and the Occidental Al Jaddaf, with spacious rooms and possibly the largest suites in the city.
