Alicante province is famous for its wonderful climate and pleasant temperatures, a place where the sun shines almost all year round. However, if there’s one thing you can’t control during your holiday its the weather and there’s always a chance it might rain.

If you’re intending to spend some fun days in Benidorm, your plans will almost definitely include a visit to Terra Mítica and other theme parks, lively beaches and nearby natural spaces. But if there’s a downpour one day – don’t worry! A spot of rain doesn’t have to put an end to your fun.

Benidorm is an excellent city for having alternative plans at the ready so you can escape the outdoors in the event of a storm, take shelter, and enjoy your day at the same time. Here are all the best options!

Go shopping in a Benidorm shopping centre

A morning of rain showers is the perfect time for that shopping trip you’ve been waiting for. Shopping malls are a particularly great choice if you’re travelling with children because they don’t just mean stores and window shopping.

One of the most famous shopping centres in Benidorm is La Marina Finestrat about 10 km away on the outskirts of the city. You can easily get there by car, train or bus, with the added advantage of free parking.

This vast complex is spread over three floors: two are filled with well-known brands and the top floor is set aside for leisure and recreation. Here you’ll find plenty of restaurants, a huge cinema and a bowling alley where you can play a game with your little ones. In addition, the centre has a 4,000 m2 kids’ zone with mini golf and go-karting, among other activities. Definitely the ideal spot for all the family.

Watching a movie in Benidorm

What about the king of rainy-day plans? Going to the cinema with plenty of popcorn to enjoy the latest big release should also be added to your list of essential plans for a rainy day. There are lots of places to choose between. For example, if you’re in the centre you could head to Cine Colci, the best-known cinema in the city. It has eight screens and shows new releases.

Or, if you’d like prefer to watch a film in its original language, try visiting Cine Colci Rincón in Rincón de Loix in the north of the city, the largest and most tourist-orientated neighbourhood in Benidorm. And don’t forget that the La Marina Finestrat shopping centre has a modern cinema with 3D screens.

Escape room in Benidorm

How about some excitement and an adrenaline-rush to get you through a rainy day? The escape room concept is here to stay and it’s a great way to spend a fun time with a group. An escape room is a type of mentally and physically challenging game: you’re locked in somewhere (the place changes depending on the theme) and have to escape by solving riddles and puzzles before you run out of time.

And now you can enjoy this activity in Benidorm! An escape room session is perfect for doing with family or friends and teamwork is essential. One of the most famous spaces in Benidorm is Lockdown in Calle Ibiza, right in the city centre, where you can choose between several differen scenarios: Zombie Apocalypse, Cold War or The Orphanage of Lost Souls — the latter is only suitable for the bravest visitors. Lockdown also runs a children’s activity that involves players searching for the antidote to a powerful virus.

Another space you could try is The Paradox in Avenida Europa. This centre has an adventure called The Armour of the Gods that sees players diving down into an underwater world full of monsters and mysteries on a quest for a lost temple. Do you dare try it?

Take shelter in Benidorm’s historical centre

The beautiful cobbled streets of the city’s historical centre has lots of places where you can take shelter if it starts to rain. In addition to its stunning monuments, the centre is full of shops selling clothes, shoes, jewellery and handcrafted goods, and this is where you’ll find some of the best restaurants.

Make the most of your chance to discover the interior of the 18th century church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna and its eye-catching blue dome. However, if it’s really raining hard, you won’t be able to enjoy the views from the Balcony of Europe. How about waiting for the shower to pass with a drink in the Los Vascos area instead? Enjoy a good pintxo and a glass of wine at bars and restaurants with a northern Spanish vibe such as La Cava Aragonesa, Aurrera, La Txapela and Tragantúa.

A spot of culture in Benidorm’s museums

Finding some peace and fleeing the hustle and bustle of the rain and umbrellas is easy inside some of Benidorm’s museums. This is another excellent way to make the most of a stormy day. The Benidorm Maritime Cultural Centre offers visitors an exhibition of naval models and nautical objects to remind you that you’re on the coast. The Boca del Calvari Museum is also extremely interesting and is located on the site of the old town hall. It holds temporary exhibitions that are normally linked to Benidorm in some way, as part of an effort to bring people closer to its tradition and origins.

Bowling´s always a good choice for having fun

Another option is the Hort de Colón Museum. It’s housed in a 19th century mansion that has been converted into an exhibition hall and can be used for different events. Don’t miss the most cultural side of the city and while you make the most of the rainy day.

These are just some of the plans that we’d recommend so that the rain doesn’t put a dampener on your Benidorm fun. But perhaps you’d prefer entertainment of a different kind? Then check out Benidorm Circus, a colourful animal-free circus with acrobats that is suitable for all ages.

And don’t forget that at night, Benidorm can boast of having some of the best nightclubs in Spain: another exciting way to escape a soaking. Places such as Penélope, Priviledge X and KM form the most famous triangle of the city’s nightlife. KU is shaped like a flying saucer while the Tropical House is perfect for Latin music fans. So don’t let the storm ruin your holiday!
