There we will find not only local products, such as sausages and cured meats, fruit and vegetables, which are usually examples of something authentic and appreciated by the city’s inhabitants. These street markets and flea markets are also there for us to get lost in them; to discover bargains in used or second-hand objects; to be enticed by a multitude of vintage items that are now difficult to find, perhaps displayed next to a fork or a piece of electric plug. 

To immerse ourselves in this welter of bargains and discoveries, we recommend you pay a visit to the following street markets in Alicante and the surrounding province: 

Babel Street Market 

This generalist market is one of the best known in Alicante and here you can find books, LPs, bicycles or even a teapot, all distributed among 538 stalls. In short: all kinds of second-hand items and handicrafts at the best price. 

Where and when: This market stretches along the streets of Pardo Gimeno, Asilo and Guillén de Castro. It is open on Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 am to 2 pm, unless these are public holidays, when it is held the day before. 

 

 

El Campello Street Market 

In the province of Alicante we also find the popular street market of El Campello, which has about 180 stalls. Here we can buy fruit, food, bags, clothing, glasses, accessories, jewellery, decorative items, plants or household items. This is a market with a wide range of goods on sale, many of them second-hand and at a very good price. 

Where and when: The market is held on Wednesdays (except public holidays) from 8 am to 1 pm in the Plaza Saint Christol Lez Ales, and has free parking.  

Gran Vía-Teulada Street Market 

This generalist market has 65 stalls. Here we can find all kinds of second-hand and antique bargains. It also has ample parking as well as bars and other dining options nearby. There is a good selection of fruit, vegetables and other food products too. 

Where and when: The market is open from 8 am to 2 pm in the Calle Teulada, Alicante, on Thursdays and Saturdays, unless these are public holidays, when it is held the day before. 

Muchavista Street Market 

What stands out most about the Muchavista Street Market is the variety of the goods on sale: jewellery, household textiles, footwear, nuts and dried fruits, sausages and cured meats, vegetables, antiques, and much more… Highly recommended for its excellent prices, and there are some bars and takeaway food places nearby. 

Where and when: The market is open on Fridays and Sundays from 8 am to 2 pm and has free parking. It is located at the Avenida Elda in San Juan de Alicante. 

Sunday street markets in Alicante province 

If what we want is to enjoy Sunday by going for a stroll and letting ourselves be enticed by the curiosities and bargains that are on offer at these markets, here are a few suggestions: 

El Cisne Flea Market: this is one of Alicante’s most popular flea markets, held next to an antique shop of the same name. It has a large number of antiques and relics of all kinds, as well as a separate area with bars, cafes and restaurants offering Spanish and international cuisine. It is open on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 2 pm at Avenida de la Comunitat Valenciana number 67. 

Polop Second-hand and Antiques Market: here we can find all kinds of offers and bargains in second-hand goods and antiques, in a space with more than 400 stalls. The market is located in the town of Polop, at the Plá de Polop industrial estate, and is open from 8 am to 2 pm. 

Elche Generalist Market: every Sunday this flea market of around 163 stalls attracts people who are looking for some hidden treasure among its second-hand goods. It is open from 9 am to 2 pm at the Martínez Valero Stadium (except when there is a match). 

Ibi Collectors’ Market: Ibi is an area with several toy factories, such as Famosa, and this market for repairing toys has been held here for more than 50 years now. We can also find toys and parts dating back to before 1980. It takes place on the third weekend of October, from 10 am to 9 pm. 

Alcoy Collectors’ Market: this market in Alcoy has barely 10 stalls, but let that not mislead us: the items that are exchanged, sold and bought here are sometimes of great value. This is a favourite place for those who still enjoy collecting stamps and coins as well as old letters and postcards. It is held on the first Sunday of every month at Plaça dels Dins, from 9 am to 2 pm. 

Villajoyosa Medieval Market: on the last weekend of April, the historic centre of Villajoyosa hosts this fair/market specialising in costume jewellery and leather accessories. Here we can also find jewellery in silver, gold and precious stones; handcrafted soaps, pottery, miniatures and much more. If you are fortunate enough to be in the area at this time of year, we recommend that you visit it from 11 am to 10 pm. 

Santa Pola Street Markets 

Generalist and food market: this market has around 440 stalls, most of them selling food products, although we can also find costume jewellery, clothing and accessories. It is held on Mondays and Saturdays (except public holidays) from 8 am to 2 pm on an outdoor site between the Albacete and Portus Ilicitanus avenues. 

Naturalia: here gems, minerals, fossils, insects and shells are sold, bought and exchanged… some of them millions of years old. There are about 20 stalls and the market takes place from 3 to 18 August, opening every day from 6 pm to 1 am next to the Castle. 

The TerraGran Organic Food Market: this market sells organic and local produce from the region of Alicante. Here, we will find fresh fruits and vegetables, olives, homemade wine and bread, oils, cheeses, hemp products and organic cosmetics. It is held every Wednesday in the summer until 31 August.  

Traditional Summer Street Markets: these are held in Plaza Castilla every day from 10 am to 2 pm and 6 pm to 1 am, and alongside the Playa Lisa beach, in the Plaza Maestro Moisés Davia, with the same opening hours. They are both open all through the summer, from the end of June to 1 September, selling jewellery, beach goods, shells, bracelets, T-shirts or anything that makes an ideal souvenir. 

Altea Street Markets 

The generalist market of Altea, which has about 300 stalls, offers us handicrafts, clothing, footwear, accessories, costume jewellery, decorative items, flowers, plants and many local pickles and products, as well as a large section devoted to organic food products. This is a good market in which we can find much of interest. It takes place on Tuesdays all year round in the Calle Filarmónica, from 8 am to 2 pm. 

And on the same day and at the same time, between Calle Camino del Algar and the Plaza del Ayuntamiento there is the popular Mercadillo del Algar, specialising in clothes, shoes and accessories, particularly leather goods.
