Baños de Montemayor
The historical spa of Baños de Montemayor is in the north of the province of Cáceres, huddled in the Valle del Ambroz. The medicinal properties of the spring water in this area have been revered since Roman times. In fact, the first spa to occupy the site was built in the 2nd century AD.
This spa provides the utmost relaxation and wellness experience. Treat yourself to a soothing thermal circuit; you’ll leave feeling utterly rejuvenated. The history, the natural surroundings and the healing prosperities of the waters provide the perfect cocktail to recharge your batteries. The circuit begins with the comforting bubbles of the Jacuzzi on the top floor. From there, you’ll step into an experiential shower which interplays with a range of pressures and chromotherapy.
The ground floor houses a splendid stone-vaulted room with thermal baths and adorned with softly lit Roman statues. The baths are lined with waterfalls, placed at different heights and pressures to release tensions. The room is also equipped with a steam room and a relaxation area. As you unwind, tiny droplets of mineral water fall on your skin and are absorbed by your lungs, producing a soothing effect. They also help eliminate toxins and clean the respiratory tract.
The spa also offers physiotherapy and beauty treatments, including massages. Why not book an invigorating micro massage or a deep relaxation massage? You’ll feel like a new person at the end of the treatment.
Other spas in the province of Cáceres
Los Baños de San Gregorio is situated on the outskirts of Brozas, in the middle of the countryside, and its origins date back as far as Roman times. The spa was named after the Ermita of San Gregorio which the sick attended so they could be cured by drinking the medicinal waters.
History has it that Cipriano Cabrera, the priest of Brozas, left a sum of 20,000 Spanish reales in his will so that the Ermita de San Gregorio could be refurbished and a bath house could be built so that any person seeking to be healed would be welcomed.
The spring water is 22 ºC, transparent, with the slight characteristic odour of sulphurous waters. The water is especially beneficial for those individuals suffering from rheumatic disorders, such as arthrosis; nervous system disorders, such as depression and stress; respiratory disorders, such as bronchitis and asthma; and dermatological disorders.
Another great spa destination is Balneario del Valle del Jerte, situated just 19 km from Plasencia. The waters are renowned for their effective healing powers. The Valle del Jerte is beautiful all year long, but it is especially stunning when the cherry trees are in full bloom.
