Travel back in time to 1812, the year of La Pepa, the first Spanish Constitution. Discover the pivotal role Cadiz played in this momentous era
Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Spanish history on this captivating 2-hour guided walking tour. Our journey begins at Plaza de España, where the monument to the Cadiz courts stands tall. From here, we venture towards Plaza de Argüelles, unveiling some of the grandest palatial houses that housed merchants during the drafting of La Pepa.
As we stroll along Alameda Apodada, with its breathtaking bay views, we'll uncover more palatial abodes from that period, including the legendary Casa de los Espejos (House of Mirrors).
Delve into the 18th-century baroque Iglesia del Carmen to explore the various interpretations of the Constitution. We'll then step into the Barrio del Mentidero, the city's safest haven during the French siege. Here, we can admire the former residence of the Duke of Wellington, the leader of the Spanish-English troops.
Our route continues through Plaza Mina, birthplace of the composer Manuel de Falla. We'll also be captivated by the majestic Casino Gaditano in Plaza de San Antonio, and the historic streets of Sagasta and Calle Ancha, where the flame of political discourse in Spain was ignited.
Following Calle Ancha, we arrive at the Oratory of San Felipe Neri, the heart of the Constitution's creation. This is where the Magna Carta was meticulously crafted and signed.
To culminate this enriching experience, we ascend to one of the highest attics on Calle Ancha, housed in a building dating back to 1856. From this vantage point, you'll be mesmerized by breathtaking panoramic views of Cadiz and its most significant landmarks.
This tour promises an unforgettable journey, hand in hand with our local expert guide through the historical and cultural heart of Cadiz, the cradle of Spanish democracy.
