Morro Jable is the most populated town in the municipality of Pájara in the south of Fuerteventura, and one of the island’s leading tourist destinations. In the town you can disconnect on tranquil beaches where crystal-clear water laps at the shore, take long walks along the seaside with the lighthouse in the background, visit the historic quarter, and enjoy its delicious gastronomy.
Until the early twentieth century, with the development of agriculture, stockbreeding and salt production, the area had still not been developed, and for that matter, it wasn’t until 1966 when the first hotel was opened. These days, the town’s main avenue is a commercial thoroughfare, which is home to the highest concentration of tourist accommodation, restaurants, nightlife and shops—the most extensive range of options on the whole island offering something for every budget and taste.

From water sports, golf, hiking and bicycle routes, to some of the best beaches on the island and charming lookout points, without forgetting a great selection of restaurants, bars and nightclubs where you can enjoy the night with dancing and drinks.
One of its strong points is its incredible beaches with fine, white sand. The well-known Playa del Matorral beach stretches for four kilometres and is situated next to the seafront promenade replete with shops, entertainment options and restaurants. It also boasts a wetland, which is protected due to its scientific importance: Saladar de Jandía salt flat, visited by birds and home to highly interesting salt-tolerant vegetation. El Matorral lighthouse, visible from anywhere on the beach, separates the nudist zone (to the north of the lighthouse) from the regular area (that closest to the town), and is also a perfect place to watch the sunset. Close by is the clean and tranquil Mal Nombre beach, where you’ll find yourself practically alone, and Butihondo beach, which boasts golden sand and beach bars where you can recharge your batteries.
Without a doubt, the finest views can be enjoyed from the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, founded in 1992, which affords panoramic views of the whole beach and the lighthouse. Although the town is geared towards tourism, strolling through the historic quarter brings to mind the calm, traditional spirit that is so typical of seaside towns. Don’t hesitate to wander through the streets, stop for a coffee or listen to the buskers from one of the many terraces, with the waves crashing in the background. Also be sure to head to Morro Jable port, from where ferries, cargo ships and local fishing boats come and go, and where manta rays can often be spotted. What’s more, next to the port is the Turtle Nursery, a rehabilitation centre for turtles, which is free to enter.

- Mis Abuelos: A tapas bar with a homely feel serving traditional Canarian cuisine at excellent prices. This is not a tourist-oriented establishment, but rather a classic bar where you can eat well for cheap.
- Coronado: A restaurant with an amazing chill-out zone and a swimming pool where you can relax, spend a romantic evening and savour its delectable meat dishes.
- Mojo Beach Club: Famous for its different flavoured shishas, mojitos and delicious cocktails, it also offers great music and a Latin-style atmosphere.
- Tortuga Fuerteventura: The most iconic establishment in the south of the island, it is known for its cocktails, great atmosphere, and for offering the finest views of the lighthouse and the beach. It also has an area with sofas and snooker tables.
- Surf Inn: This surfer-style bar also offers delicious cocktails and is a perfect place to spend an evening with friends accompanied by live music.
