Girona is a city full of history and monuments that can be appreciated in a single day if you are well organised, but you’ll still be left wanting to know more at the end of your day. Fortunately, legend has it that if you kiss the lioness’s backside, you are sure to return to Girona. So in this tour we have included this essential ritual, as well as the most important buildings.
Itinerary day 1
17.30 - 19.30
A tour of the bridges
We can start our tour at the Pont de Sant Feliu, which is the way in and out of the Barri Vell. The bridge’s construction is quite modern, but the views of the basilica are worth it. The next bridge we come to is the Pont d'en Gómez, named in honour of the owner of the dwelling that was destroyed to make way for this crossing over the river Onyar. Having crossed over, we can visit the Plaza de la Independencia, but then we will have to return to our river walk via the Pont de Sant Agustí, the entry point to the Rambla de la Libertad and Calle de Argenteria. This is where we will find the famous earth-coloured houses known as the Casas de Onyar, as well as Casa Masó, the unique home of the famous architect, Rafael Masó, near the river.
20.00-21.00
Rambla de la Llibertat
In between zig-zagging over the bridges, you could wander beneath the arcades of the Rambla de la Llibertat, one of Girona’s most important shopping streets, as well as a meeting place for both locals and tourists looking to eat and drink in its many bars and restaurants.
21.30 - 23.00
Dinner at the SinoFos restaurant
Located in Plaza de Cataluña, this superb restaurant is recommended by the Repsol Guide as one of the best places to eat in Girona. The restaurant offers a tasting menu, as well as a menu based on the quality of the ingredients and seasonal dishes that change throughout the year.
