Travel to the past to understand the present, an enjoyable guided walking tour through the old town of Las Palmas
The Historic Quarter of Vegueta was declared a Historic Artistic Site in 1973, a jewel you will discover hand in hand with our professional guides on a pleasant walking route of an hour and a half
Vegueta was the founding nucleus of the city, the place where in 1478 the troops of the conquistador Juan Rejón built the first military camp, which he called the Real de las Palmas, a name from the palm trees that rose in the place and that gave the city its name. It was also the first Castilian site in the Atlantic, and since then, it has been the centre of the political, religious and administrative life of the island and the place where the Crown of Castile began the Conquest of the Canary Islands.
We will walk along Calle de los Balcones, Plaza de San Martín, Plaza de Pilar Nuevo, the old street of the Portuguese with the 15th century San Martín Hospital, we will cross winding alleys to admire the first noble houses built after the conquest. We will visit the Plaza de Santa Ana, a monumental complex of emblematic buildings which represent our society, to finish at the House of the Governor as well as the Columbus Museum (admission NOT included in the price).
