The Congost de Mont-Rebei is a real spectacle of nature. It is a hidden gem high up between the provinces of Lleida and Huesca. It isn´t usually prone to mass tourism due to the difficulty to get there. This is a ravine which juts out over the Noguera Ribagorçana river as it flows through the Montsec mountain range. The river makes a natural border between Aragon and Catalonia. It is an ideal destination for enjoying a weekend getaway, since the landscape is fantastic. To be precise, it is located between the region of La Ribagorza in Aragon and Pallars Jussà in Catalonia, although its main entrance is La Masieta. Since 1999, Congost de Mont-Rebei has been protected and managed by Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera in order to protect its natural and scenic heritage.

It is not suitable for those suffering from vertigo

Congost de Mont-Rebei, a territory covering over 600 hectares is not suitable for high-heeled shoes nor for those suffering from vertigo. The vertical cliffs of the ravine are impressive. They soar to 500 metres and extend to the distance in a path that seems to be excavated from the rock. However, the landscape is breathtaking, since one is exposed to extraordinary natural beauty. One may contemplate the scenery from above and see how the canoes and kayaks move along the river.

On leaving the Congost de Mont-Rebei there is the option of continuing up to the Congost del Seguer suspension bridge which links to the Montfalcó trail which is now in Huesca.

Entorno natural del Congost de Mont-Rebei

The Mont-Rebei ravine seems to have been sculpted by a great artist as its shapes are so perfect. Apart from the great views that can be enjoyed here, one should appreciate the flora and fauna in the environment where vultures, bearded vultures, eagles and otters thrive. Along the route you can also find a small cave with prehistoric remains. Also, you may observe that there are stretches of the trail in which the width of the river is no more than 20 metres.
