Beaches and hidden coves
We start with Ibiza’s most obvious attraction: its beautiful beaches. Large or small, they all look out on to an intensely blue sea that you will never forget. Obviously, you will want to get away from the most crowded coastal resorts and enjoy peace and quiet. In that case, you could head for Cala Llentrisca. One of the most secluded coves in the south of the island, it is completely unspoilt and located at one end of the bay of Es Cubells.
Cala Olivera is another of the quietest coves, due to the steep access path, but it’s well worth making the effort. The lush pine forests, so typical of the North of Ibiza, surround Cala d’Albarca, one of the island’s most secluded coves which has been declared a Natural Area of Special Interest.
At Cala Xarraca you could have a mud bath to rejuvenate your skin. Punta Galera is a favourite beach for nudists, a remarkable landscape with huge, smooth pebbles where you can lay your towel, as well as a perfect spot for diving enthusiasts. The beautiful coves of Cala d’en Serra or S’Estanyol are also worth including on your list.
Watching the sunset with your partner
Can anything be more romantic than watching the sunset with your special someone? Ibiza’s sunsets will create the perfect scene that you will never forget, and there are several places where you can see a sunset straight out of a movie.
Cala D’Hort is dominated by the mesmerising sight of the islet of Es Vedrá. This is one of the most popular places from which to admire the sunset, whether from the cliff tops, from the beach, from the Savinar tower, or from the superb restaurant, Es Boldadó, set ten metres up.
If you’d like to see a sunset with a difference, you need to witness the breathtaking spectacle of colour formed over the Ses Salines Natural Park. Have a pleasant stroll here, and then linger to watch the flamingoes while the sun is reflected in the pools, creating a marvellous mirror effect.
Cala Benirrás, where a hippy drumming ritual it observed as the sun goes down, is another popular spot. The Sunset Ashram beach club, in Cala Conta, is one of Ibiza’s most legendary spots to watch the sunset while enjoying a drink, as is the famed Café del Mar, close to the beach in Sant Antoni de Portmany.
An intimate sunset? Then you need to head to the fantastic San Penya Esbarrada viewing point, where you’ll find the attractive Las Puertas del Cielo restaurant — its name, Gates of Heaven in English, says it all. This is where the hippies used to gather at sunset in the 60s. The sweeping views from the Cape of Negret to the Castellar point are priceless.
Treat yourselves to a spa session
Relaxation and wellness are essential ingredients for an enjoyable holiday. This is the ideal time to treat yourselves and enjoy a romantic spa session together. One of the best options available can be found at the Barceló Portinatx hotel, a stylish, exclusive, adults-only establishment overlooking the sea. Its many services include an outdoor wellness centre offering a sensory shower, a comprehensive treatment menu, massages, and beauty therapies to pamper you.
Romantic restaurants in Ibiza
Although it may sound like a cliché, a candlelit evening is one of the most precious memories you can treasure of your stay in Ibiza with your partner, as you’ll love the Ibiza cuisine available at some of the island’s best restaurants, along with that special ambience you so desire.
The Sa Calma restaurant commands beautiful views of Dalt Vila and of the port of Ibiza, while you enjoy its superb rice or fish dishes. In the heart of Ibiza Town’s historic quarter, you will find La Brasa, an establishment with a landscaped terrace which is heated in winter. It is a classic restaurant with a menu replete with Mediterranean dishes. How about having dinner here after a stroll around Dalt Vila getting to know its wonderful architecture?
If you’d like to have dinner in an impressive setting, you really must go to Sa Capella, a restaurant in a sixteenth-century former hermitage dedicated to Santa Agnes, located near Sant Antoni. The establishment offers an excellent wine list, and counts its steak tartare among its most acclaimed dishes. Another restaurant, Sa Punta, on the beach front at Talamanca, enjoys a beautiful natural setting, and is decorated in a distinctive Ibizan style.
For a very special occasion, we recommend Amante, on the Sol d’en Serra bay, where you can book a private dinner on the sea front. If you like the idea of a unique evening in an utterly charming setting, make a note of the magical town of Santa Gertrudis and its romantic restaurants, such as Finca La Plaza.
Water sports for couples in Ibiza
If you love sport and adventure, you’ll be looking for a holiday where both are in plentiful supply. For example, how do you fancy a private paddle boarding expedition to secret caves such as those at Cala Xuclar or Cala Vadella where you can also enjoy fabulous views of the setting sun?
Ibiza has many companies specialising in this field, and the options they offer include a kayaking expedition beneath the full moon; a diving or snorkelling session to see the island’s incredible posidonia meadows; or a boat excursion at sunset, complete with a glass of champagne. If you want to surprise your partner, Ibiza offers you a plethora of original ideas.
Strolling around Dalt Vila to appreciate its rich cultural heritage and its impressive town walls; seeing the almond trees in blossom in the Valle de Corona, if you visit between January and March; marvelling at the visual spectacle offered by the Can Marçà Cave; searching for an original gift at the famous Las Dalias hippy market; or taking a trip to Formentera (the crossing only takes 30 minutes), and enjoying a cycling tour of its amazing coves. When it comes to activities for couples in Ibiza, the sky is the limit.
