They say that Sa Figuera Borda is not a cove but a dream. Situated 8.5 kilometres from the municipality of Sant Josep de Sa Talaia and very close to Cala Comte, on the western coast of Ibiza, it is one of those places that will no doubt leave its mark on you. The incredible rocky, gravel cove, which spans a length of barely 75 metres and a width of just ten, will hypnotise first-time visitors with its overwhelming beauty. What’s more, the cliff that lines the cove has a huge hole carved out of its middle, like a vertical crater, making its beauty even more spectacular and photogenic, although part of it is occupied by boathouse sheds. Bear in mind that there is only a small section for accessing the water, due to the large amount of rocks and cliffs.

The beauty of Sa Figuera Borda
Although it is not the best place to go for a dip, since the seabed is full of stones and gravel, visiting this secret corner of Ibiza is well worth the effort due to its beauty. The water is crystalline and transparent, there are usually hardly any people and the setting is spectacular, with the islets of S’Espartar and Es Vedrá as the backdrop. Asking for directions from a local, who will happily show visitors the way, makes accessing the hard-to-reach cove a lot easier. From time to time yoga sessions are held in the cave – an experience that is well worth it.
Sa Figuera Borda cove
Situated very close to the town of San Antonio de Portmany, Sa Figuera Borda cove is a destination that will leave you amazed with its rocky outcrops etched forever in your mind. The rock and pebble cove is far from any signs of civilisation and its crystalline waters gleam even more thanks to the contrast provided by the surrounding cliffs. Accessing the cove isn’t easy, which is why find you will not usually find many people.
Its most notable feature is the large arch carved out of the rock by the water over millions of years, which is these days occupied by huts used by fishermen to store their boats and fishing tools. You won’t tire of taking snaps of the scene, with Cala Comte on one side and Es Vedrá on the other, especially if you come before sunset. It is said that the best sunsets in Ibiza can be seen from the beach. Be that as it may, they are truly a sight to behold with the sound of the waves heard in the background.
Sa Figuera Borda surroundings
In addition to Sa Figuera Borda there are other idyllic coves that are well worth a visit. This is the case of Cale Comte (or Platges de Comte), which is just three minutes away by car, where you will find captivating and highly varied beaches. The main beaches are Ponent and Tramuntana, whose names indicate their orientation (they are named after winds that blow from the west and north, respectively). Both have lifeguards and a sun lounger and parasol hire service, making them ideal for families visiting with children. From them, the view of Illots de Ponent is particularly beautiful. The most isolated beach in the area is Racó d’en Xic, which is nudist.
Just a short distance away are other interesting places for exploring, such as En Rovira tower, a former defence tower dating from the sixteenth century used to keep watch for pirates. From there you can make out the magnificent sight of Illots de Ponent and Cala Comte’s different beaches.
