In the late 1960s and early 1970s, César Manrique returned to Lanzarote and, together with Jesús Soto, began the construction and development of the Lanzarote Art, Culture, and Tourism Centres. Perhaps they were unaware of the international recognition and artistic movement they were about to create.
A multidisciplinary artist—painter, sculptor, monument and tourist complex curator, landscape and garden designer, and renowned environmentalist—César Manrique pioneered a style integrating natural volcanic features that resonated globally and became a worldwide reference. He successfully unified art, culture, nature, urban planning, and tourism into a singular concept, guided by a philosophy and model of urban intervention rooted in sustainability and respect for the natural assets of the territory.
Without the Monument to the Peasant, Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Río, Cactus Garden, or Cueva de los Verdes, our island would undoubtedly be different, less appealing, and lacking much of its unique character. To not visit these Centres and works of art, and to miss the opportunity to understand their significance, is akin to not having truly visited us. On this excursion, we are delighted to offer you this opportunity on a journey through the North of Lanzarote
