Menorca is an idyllic island that is spoilt with a wealth of unbeatable nature. The Menorcan coast is still an undiscovered treasure for many and the best way to explore it is by leaving dry land behind and setting out to sea. You’ll see unique spots, hidden coves, little cliffs, caves and a wealth of marine fauna. There are plenty of activities to do on the island, but here we’ve chosen four of the best for your trip to Menorca.
Kayak trip
One of the best activities to do in Menorca is a kayak trip to discover the island’s secret spots that cannot be seen from land. The Menorcan coastline has plenty of options, so grab your oars and hit the water to explore the coast from countless coves in the north and south of the island.
A kayak trip will take you to hidden, peaceful coves that are straight off a postcard. You can even combine kayaking with snorkelling to enjoy the treasures of the Menorcan sea to the full. If you’re not confident going alone, book a tour with a guide so that your first time is even more unforgettable.
Boat trip
If you’d prefer to sail in peace aboard a boat, with a skipper and minimum effort, Menorca has plenty of options to choose from. There are endless possibilities with something for every budget: speedboats, small catamarans and even sailing boats. For example, for tighter budgets, you could do a half day trip to the North Menorca Marine Reserve, where you’ll discover unspoilt beaches, incredible spots along the coast and the clearest waters in the western Mediterranean.
You could also go sailing and watch the sunset, enjoying this magical moment from the sea in the Fornells area. The options are endless – the choice is yours!
Diving
Another top activity in Menorca is scuba diving. It’s one of the best places in the western Mediterranean to go diving because the waters are very calm, warm and clear so you can easily see the seabed. You can dive at different spots depending on your level, and the clear Menorcan water has everything from reefs, caves and the North Menorca Marine Reserve, a marine space that is protected due to its rich ecosystem.
For example, you could leave from Fornells and combine snorkelling and kayaking in the Marine Reserve , or go diving in the south of the island to see marine caves and shipwrecks with your own eyes. Jet ski trip
More of a daredevil and boats or kayaks are too tame for you? Track down one of the many places in Menorca that let you explore the coastline by jet ski.
Alone or with your partner, get your adrenaline pumping as you race across the Menorcan water at top speed while discovering the island’s magical coastline. Leave from Fornells and you can also visit the cliffs in the nearby area.
Where to eat in Menorca
After all that excitement on the water, there’s nothing better than heading back to dry land and enjoying Menorca’s wonderful food at one of the places we recommend below.
If you’re still in Fornells after your sea adventure, try the lobster stew at Es Cranc, a popular restaurant on the island. You can also find it at Sa Llagosta and Es Port, another two classic restaurants in the town.
If you’re in Ciutadella, stop at Café Balear and try the fish or one of the famous rice dishes. You can also go to Es Tast de na Silvia, the only accredited slow food restaurant in the Balearic Islands, which exclusively uses local ingredients.
Another cheap and popular option in Ciutadella is the market, where you’ll find several bars and restaurants such as S’Aguait and Ulises.
Finally, if you’re in Mahón, the following two restaurants never fail to delight: El Rais and Ses Forquilles.
