Thailand is an ideal country for both honeymooners and couples. There are many romantic plans in Thailand. Needless to say, this sometimes happens in the hotels themselves, many of which have large villas or very spacious rooms with their own swimming pool and complete room services that invite you not to leave. Even for days at a time.

While not dismissing that possibility, it is a pity not to take advantage of the many romantic plans Thailand has to offer beyond its hotels. Whether on the coast, inland or in the vibrant city of Bangkok, these are some of the best options for a couple’s holiday in ‘The Land of Smiles’.

  1. Romantic dinner on the beach
  2. Cocktails at Bangkok’s sky bars
  3. Dinner boat trip on the river Chao Phraya
  4. Massage for two
  5. Thai cooking course for two
  6. Feeding or bathing an elephant
  7. Sailing among water lilies and lotus flowers
  8. Where to stay in Thailand

Romantic dinner on the beach

You can enjoy dinner for two, lit by candles and torches, on the sandy beach, in light clothing and bare feet, tasting the most succulent traditional Thai food delicacies or the international cuisine favourites. In general, this is what awaits couples who choose this romantic plan offered by many hotels and some restaurants in the country.

It is usually a good idea to plan ahead, even when making your hotel purchase or booking, to ensure that the experience is available.

Cocktails at Bangkok’s sky bars

Bangkok’s skyline is dotted with the outlines of huge flat, office and hotel towers. The rooftops of many of these buildings are occupied by sky bars where you can enjoy the grandeur of the city, cocktail in hand, listening to the latest music, either at tables within sight or in private booths, the latter ideal for preserving one’s privacy.

Some of the highlights include Red Sky Bangkok, Sky on 20, Sky Beach Bangkok and Zoom Sky Bar & Restaurant.

Dinner boat trip on the river Chao Phraya

The Chao Phraya, the river that splits the city of Bangkok into two, is crossed by numerous mini-cruises that allow you to see some of the city’s main monuments and tourist attractions. At sunset, you can also see the moment when the boats set sail, some of which are authentic Asian luxury boats which provide a gastronomic (and tourist) experience with many stars and a very high quality service.

Many of these night cruises depart from the Asiatique shopping centre and are available in different price ranges, routes and gastronomic proposals. Nevertheless, they all guarantee a truly romantic and unforgettable experience.

Massage for two

Thailand, ‘The Land of Smiles’, could also be called ‘The Land of Massages’. In fact, there are so many centres specialising in the intense yet relaxing wellness techniques through massage that it is really difficult to choose.

If you do not want to think about this too much, you can enjoy these treatments in your hotel’s own wellness centre. Many of these centres also offer couple massages.

Nevertheless, it is highly recommended that you choose some of the independent massage centres. Among the most highly rated are Kiriya Spa and RarinJinda Spa, both in Bangkok; Lamoonspa and The Raintree Spa in Phuket; and Zira Spa in Chiang Mai.

Thai cooking course for two

For Thailand, food and everything that revolves around it is a true collective philosophy of life. It is something to which Thais devote a lot of time and, of course, a lot of love. So, if you really want to get to know and experience this country, it is a good idea to understand the basics of its cuisine.

It is better if you do this as a couple. This is an experience offered by many hotels and also by some local agencies and companies. The course usually begins with a trip to the market to buy the ingredients that will later be used in the kitchen. There, under the guidance of one of the country’s chefs, three or four of its most representative and succulent dishes are prepared. Once the cooking is finished, the food is savoured at the table and, to top it all off, the recipe is handed over to encourage you to repeat the experience back home.

Feeding or bathing an elephant

This plan is not suitable for all types of couples, but it is for those who consider themselves to be nature and animal lovers. In Thailand, there are several sanctuaries that preserve the lives of elephants, some of them rescued from situations of real exploitation by people with little environmental awareness, and provide them with a dignified and pleasant existence.

One of them, in Chiang Mai, is Elephant Nature Park, a protected area where you can participate in the care of these huge animals, for example by feeding them with your own hands or helping them at bath time.

Sailing among water lilies and lotus flowers

Sailing on small wooden boats on lakes full of flowers such as pink water lilies and lotuses is a delight. This romantic plan can be experienced at sites such as the Red Lotus Lake in Udon Thani (blooming between December and February).

You can also enjoy this at the Thale Noi Lake in the province of Phatthalung. There, the flowers bloom in March and April. The ideal way to enjoy the sight is to hire a boat at dawn, just as the flowers open. All of this is enlivened by the music of hundreds of birds.
