Cut and carved into a solid rock face, this group of monolithic churches, chapels and monasteries date back to the 13th century. They have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to the magnificent medieval frescoes which have remained largely preserved and reflect the influence of Byzantine art.
